And we need to have courage to move forward- to push past the struggle and be who we want to be as leaders despite the fact that it can be really, really scary. And wherever we are in our lives- as leaders- we all experience struggle. Maya Angelou had to endure great struggle throughout her life. Because without courage, you can't practice any other virtues consistently. The only thing is, people have to develop courage. If my heart's not in it, I can't be in it. But ultimately, it makes me a better leader and entrepreneur. That's a learned skill, and not always easy to practice. If I don't love doing something, and it's not necessary for my families' survival, I don't do it. Whatever you want to do, if you want to be great at it, you have to love it and be able to make sacrifices for it. That no one could advocate for me better than I could- in fact, no one WOULD advocate for me if I wouldn't. When I was struggling as a leader, I found that this quote helped me realize that I absolutely needed to put myself first.
